I have enjoyed approving geocaches for the Czech Republic, but due to the increase in volume I think it is time the Czech geocaching community had a local cache reviewer. I have corresponded with some of you, and can think of a few who would probably do a great job. However I think it would be best if the Czech geocachers choose someone to do this job themselves.
The criteria I would expect are: 1) Experience - not necessarily having hundreds of finds, but someone who has geocached for several years and has experience in hiding and finding caches of all sorts. 2) An excellent knowledge of the English language. The geocaching guidelines are in English, and you would need to use English to communicate with the other cache approvers (we are too dumb to know your language). 3) Well respected by the local geocaching community and, if possible, internationally. What I mean by that is you should not have written terrible things in the groundspeak forums.

4) You should preferably have had a leadership position in a local geocaching organization, planned local events, and/or worked with local park managers or news media to gain acceptance of our sport. 5) You should be willing to work hard for no pay, and put up with the possible anger of those who's caches you will have to decline to approve. 6) You'd likely also have to cover neighboring eastern European countries with similar languages to yours such as Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Hungary, though the volume of caches in those countries is very small. 7) You will have to be relentless in adhering to the rules (geocaching guidelines) even though you may not personally agree with them all. For instance you must not approve vacation caches left by those who won't return to maintain them, you must not approve virtual caches in places where a physical cache could go. You should start asking for the final cache location of multistage caches to be sure they are not too near other caches or that future caches are not placed to near that cache. I have not been doing that for the Czech caches, but as volumes increase you will have to.
I'm not sure what more I can say, but feel free to ask me questions about the job. I would hope that this forum could be used for people to nominate either themselves or others. People who are nominated by others can either accept or decline. Then there could be an election, if that is the way you'd like to do this. Or you can decide with dueling pistols or arm wrestling - whatever works for you. The person who is selected will then be discussed for a week or so by the other cache approvers (that's why I said you should not have written anything nasty in the groundspeak forums), and if no one has any objections you will be given access to the admin part of geocaching.com to approve caches.
In any event, in a month I'll be going away for more than a week, and won't have my PC with me, so you fine folks will have to find someone to replace me within the next few weeks.
Best regards,
~erik~
